Litchfield Tourist and Van Park

Litchfield National Park

Information & Attractions - Experience Florence Falls, Wangi Falls and Magnetic Termite Mounds

THERE ARE NO FEES AND CHARGES TO ENTER LITCHFIELD NATIONAL PARK

Litchfield National Park has to be one of the best if not the best National Park in Australia.  This National Park can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

MAGNETIC TERMITE MOUNDS are just 21 klms from us. Approximately 4 Klms down the road you will find the entrance to the National Park

21 Klms from Litchfield Tourist Park you will find the termite mounds. This is an interesting stop as they are built north to south and are called Magnetic Termite mounds.  Call in and have a look at these, especially if you have children.

27 Klms  down the track you will find the turnoff to Buley Rock hole and Florence Falls.

Buley Rock hole (3 Klms from main road) is a series of rock-pools which are great to sit and relax in. Please be careful getting into these pools as it can sometimes be quite slippery. (OK to Swim)

Florence Falls (5 Klms from turnoff) has a great lookout at the top. Walk down the 160 steps to the bottom pool and have a relaxing swim for a couple of hours. Don’t forget to take some drinks, towels etc

Also a great short walk between Florence Falls and Buley of about 1.5 klm.
Nice little spot in the creek for a dip along the way.
If you have a four wheel drive you can drive down the hill to the 4WD Campground and walk along the creek to the bottom pool for a swim.

Tabletop Swamp is a small swamp just 500 metres off the main road. An interesting stop with picnic tables available.

42 Klms from Litchfield Tourist & Van Park you come across Tolmer Falls. There is a short easy walk to a great viewing platform.

There are two colonies of bats that live under the falls

One is the Orange Horseshoe Bat and the other the Ghost Bat. These bats are rare and protected and therefore you are not permitted to swim at these falls. Great spot for sunset photography.

Greenant Creek is a small creek that is a great picnic spot.
There is a great walk of 2.5 klm return to Tjaetaba Falls.  Swimming is  permitted at the top of Tjaetaba Falls only.

SWIMMING IS NOT ALLOWED at the bottom of the Falls in the plunge pool as this is an Aboriginal Sacred Site.

52 Klms to Wangi Falls  There is only a short walk from the car park to the edge of the large pool where you can swim.
If you swim over to the falls there are a couple of small pools that you can climb up to and sit and relax in like a spa.

Pethericks Rainforest is not always open to the Public.
Check at the gate before entering.

Walker Creek is a lovely spot with a walk from the entrance along a trail that passes by about 8 places where you can have a dip in the creek which should be warmer than the larger falls.
Great picnic spot.

Bamboo Creek Abandoned Tin Mine
Interesting area to fossick  around and visit especially if you have children.
Follow the information trail to find out the history of the mine.

Please note: We do not recommend that you travel the gravel, corrugated road that leads to Berry Springs. Not even in a 4WD. It is quicker to return to Darwin via bitumen through Batchelor.

4WD OWNERS PLEASE NOTE

LOST CITY
is a series of rock formations that look like a city.
10.5 Klms off the road on a 4WD Track which takes approximately
Half an hour.

BLYTH HOMESTEAD
4WD track one creek crossing
Is a lovely spot to visit especially for the children.  There is a homestead that was first settled in 1928 by the Sargent Family when this was station country.  They raised 14 children in this homestead and this is certainly an interesting piece of NT History.

SANDY CREEK FALLS 4wd only one creek crossing Lovely water fall for a swim, however there is a 1.7 klm walk in to the falls.
Please be careful along the way.

THE 4WD TRACK WHICH GOES THROUGH SURPRISE CREEK TO DALY RIVER IS NOW OPEN FOR TRAFFIC.  PROCEED WITH CAUTION.
